Hope and HIV Testing in Anacostia

On April 6, more than a dozen participants and local community members joined James Perry, PrEP specialist with Family & Medical Counseling Service, at our Anacostia/SE DC office for a conversation about HIV/AIDS prevention, medical assistance, and local resources.

Washington DC is in the midst of an HIV/AIDS epidemic -- nearly 2% of residents are infected, and DC ranks first in the nation for new diagnoses. James' lecture focused on both education and prevention, and addressed many of the myths and stereotypes surrounding these diseases. He also provided free, on-site testing for both HIV and Hepatitis C.

Naima Harrison, Lead Caseworker at the Anacostia/SE DC office, described the event as "a great success. It felt good to inform the community of current issues [that are] affecting them. I and Samaritan Ministry really look forward to continued outreach and bringing more awareness about local health, employment and educational resources to our community."

Special thanks to James and Family & Medical Counseling Services for partnering with us -- we look forward to working with him in the future!
