Beautiful Day, Beautiful People: 2018 Volunteer-Staff Leader Appreciation Cruise

We give thanks to our numerous volunteers, staff and leadership for making the 2018 cruise a resounding success! It turned out to be a beautiful day, and more than 30 volunteers and guests joined Samaritan Ministry staff for a leisurely cruise from Alexandria to Georgetown to Navy Yard and back to Alexandria.

On behalf of those we serve, we recognized Marsha Obusek (NW), Doug Leavens (Silver Spring), Charlie Briggs (SE), Jaye Lewis (Skyland Workforce Center) and Susan Weinbeck (Northern VA) as our Volunteers of the Year. Additionally, we presented Change Agent Awards for staff who went above and beyond the scope of their duties. The first of these awards went to Nannie Adair (pictured above), our Toiletry and Clothing closet manager, who has done skillful, diligent work behind the scenes for at least 11 years. The other went to the Northwest office’s lead caseworker Annette Carver, who is known to many participants as the face of Samaritan Ministry, and is the first to ever receive a second Change Agent Award!

Our gracious appreciation to the Potomac Riverboat Company and its wonderful crew for our journey and King Street Blues for providing such delicious food.

Check out photos from the day here. We look forward to hosting you again next year!
